Sampdoria’s Lorenzo De Silvestri hopes he can return to the Italian international set-up during the 2013-14 campaign.

Although playing with a three-man defence has become popular in Serie A, Italy boss Cesare Prandelli still favours a four-man rearguard.

“I remain a full-back,” the 24-year-old told Radio Sportiva. “I’ve always played in a four-man defence so I would therefore have no tactical problems with the Italy side.

“I obviously hope to return to the Giro Azzurro as it is an honour for anyone to represent their country.”

The stopper, formerly of Lazio and Fiorentina, scored two goals in 24 League games for Doria this season.

De Silvestri has been capped once by his country, when Prandelli gave him a chance in the 5-0 win over the Faroe Islands in September 2010.
