According to FIFA regulations, a player may be registered to three clubs in a season, but may only play for two – “players may be registered with a maximum of three clubs during one season. During this period, the player is only eligible to play official matches for two clubs”.

Fortunatlely the defender was registered to Genoa, but left before he could play a competitive game for them in the 2016-17 season.

Gianluca Di Marzio’s website is reporting that De Maio is set for a loan move to the Viola, and will arrive in Florence this afternoon.

There will then be an option to buy for €3m, which Fiorentina can activate if he impresses for Paulo Sousa’s side.
