Kim Min-Jae has emerged as one of the best defenders in Europe and Napoli are keen to quickly raise his low release clause.

The 26-year-old South Korean centre back joined the Partenopei last summer from Fenerbahce in a deal worth around €18m, penning a three-year contract with an option for a further two years. A key element of his contract is his €48m release clause, valid this summer for clubs from abroad.

Corriere dello Sport details how Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis does not want to lose Kim in the summer and is aiming to offer him a new deal, raising the defender’s salary and increasing the release clause from €48m to €65m.

The South Korean defender has been a vital part of Luciano Spalletti’s squad this season, consistently being a rock in the centre of defence. The 26-year-old has made 30 appearances across all competitions, for a total of 2603 minutes, missing just one league outing.
