Aurelio De Laurentiis, Walter Mazzarri’s agent and Inter have become embroiled in controversy over the Napoli patron’s comments.

The trouble started when audio emerged today of De Laurentiis slamming former Napoli Coach Mazzarri for “selling himself to Inter and that” ‘scornacchiato,’ a term that implies someone who is a loser.

Some newspapers thought this was a reference to Inter President Massimo Moratti.

This evening De Laurentiis replied via Twitter, pointing out “it was a discussion closed to the media and the phrase was extrapolated without even considering the context.

“Many ask me who the ‘scornacchiato’ is. For my family, this term has a meaning between provocation and intelligence.

“Was I referring to Moratti? Absolutely not! I was referring to all those people who last year worked to take Mazzarri to Inter and in particular to those who then managed it.”

Many have suggested the real target was Mazzarri’s representative, Beppe Bozzo, who then spoke to TMW.

“If he was talking about me, then my only reply will be to say that silence is golden. Those who know the facts are aware of how things really went between Mazzarri, Napoli and Inter. Walter has never sold himself to anyone!”
