The President explained that rejecting the resignation did not mean De Canio's job was secure.

“We are going to analyse the situation carefully, seeing as for too long we have been faced with an evident problem in our approach to the game,” Pierandrea Semeraro told Rai Sport.

“We continue to gift the first half to our opponents, it happened last week with Sampdoria and again today with Cagliari. Even some good second half performances are not enough to get the points we need.

“What of De Canio's situation? No official decisions have been made. We will have a calm meeting and in these situations it is best to think them over with a cool head.

“On Tuesday we will announce our decision on the Coach following the clarification in a meeting on certain issues.”

Alberto Cavasin has been linked with a return to the club he led from 1999 to 2002, while Walter Novellino, Franco Colomba and Gigi Cagni are other options.
