The Grifone had a fantastic start to tonight’s match and were 2-0 up after 15 minutes, but were already on level terms by half-time and eventually lost 4-2.
“It’s a difficult night to explain. Games do not last 15 minutes,” said the Coach who this season has lost three out of five encounters in which they were in front.
“When playing against world class figures, you have to be careful, as they can always find the winning moment out of nowhere.
“It is beyond doubt that we lowered our guard after the second goal, as the level of intensity dropped and we lost our shape instead of continuing to press forward. We have many young players and things like how to control the tempo of a game are still causing problems.
“Roma could not be the terrible side we saw at the start of the game, which is why we had to continue with that intensity and make the most of the situation.
“A lack of experience played a nasty trick on us and we allowed our opponents back into the match. We went too deep and it is not how we prepared.”
There was also bad news when Marco Borriello was stretchered off with a sprained ankle, leaving Genoa to play with 10 men for the final 15 minutes.
“I don’t know what his condition is, as I haven’t yet spoken to the doctor.”
