Despite beating Southampton, it’s reported Inter Coach Frank de Boer remains in the balance with Andrea Mandorlini or Francesco Guidolin potential caretaker managers.

The tactician has been under fire after a series of disappointing results and Thursday’s Europa League meeting with the Saints was considered do or die.

Inter won 1-0 thanks to an Antonio Candreva strike, but Tuttosport claim the performance was not enough to convince the club, so his position remains in the balance.

The lack of options available could well be his saving grace, as the list of caretaker managers is reduced.

Rudi Garcia just took the job at Olympique Marseille and Cesare Prandelli was appointed by Valencia, while Fabio Capello ruled himself out of the running.

The most likely candidate is Mandorlini, the former Atalanta and Verona Coach who has plenty of experience at Inter as a player.

Like De Boer, he also favours the 4-3-3 formation, but would adapt it more to suit Serie A football.

Above all, he’d also accept a short-term contract to steer the club into Europe.

Other alternatives include recently fired Swansea City boss Guidolin, ex-Lazio Coach Stefano Pioli and even a return of Leonardo.

Brazilian Leonardo already rescued Inter after the Rafa Benitez debacle and is currently working in Italy as a pundit.
