Frank de Boer was pleased with his Inter debut, a 2-0 victory over Celtic, and assured Mauro Icardi “is staying with us.”

Eder and Antonio Candreva were on target in Limerick for the International Champions Cup tie.

“I’m pleased, not so much for the result, but the way we played,” De Boer told Sky Sports UK.

“All the lads gave the best of themselves, played with intensity and tried to put into practice what I asked of them.

“I’m pleased, not so much for the result, but the way we played,” De Boer told Sky Sports UK.

“All the lads gave the best of themselves, played with intensity and tried to put into practice what I asked of them.

“We scored two great goals and managed to reproduce a number of things we’d practised on the training ground, but best of all we looked compact.

“They’ve caught on to what I want from them very quickly.”

De Boer only took over a few days ago after Roberto Mancini terminated his contract by mutual consent and will have his Serie A debut against Chievo next weekend.

“I’m happy we got a good result too, but the most important game is next weekend. Now we have a week to prepare for our trip to Chievo.

“We’ll get better from week to week, but the next game is the most important one and the first league fixture is always one of the trickiest.”

De Boer was also asked about Napoli’s €62m offer for Argentine hitman Icardi, who is also of interest to Chelsea and Arsenal.

“Mauro is staying with us because he’s a hugely important player.”
