“I am fortunate to have such a great player in the squad and he arrived with remarkable humility. He understands exactly where we are coming from and that amazed me.
“Of course, we know what a great player he is. Our objective is to keep him in good shape and ensure he doesn’t get injured. We leave him a certain freedom to create, but he also helps out in defence, albeit in a slightly different way. Gervinho makes the difference.”
Parma have now won two on the bounce, beating Inter and Cagliari without conceding a goal.
“It’s a pity really that we brought in so many players only during the last week of the transfer window, but now we are finding some consistency and a more regular starting XI with players who really know each other.
“When you develop the 4-3-3, it’s natural to put balls down the flanks. We struggled a little in the first half against a quality Cagliari side, but I think overall we had the only real scoring opportunities.”
