Parma Coach Roberto D’Aversa believes “even the dark moments helped fortify us” for their promotion back into Serie A.

The Ducali went bankrupt in 2015 and had to begin all over again from Serie D, but this evening earned their third consecutive promotion for a return to the top flight.

“There is satisfaction for what the lads achieved, because not everyone could get back into Serie A in such a short space of time,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“At this moment, we have to enjoy the promotion, as even the dark moments helped fortify us. If we look at the statistics, we finished the season with the best defence and I think the team was solid throughout.”

Parma were heading for the play-offs until the 89th minute, when Frosinone conceded a naïve counter-attack for their 2-2 draw with Foggia.

“After we lost to Frosinone, I told the lads that we were going to finish ahead of them in the table. Now it’s time to celebrate.”

D’Aversa took charge of Parma in December 2016, when they were in Lega Pro, and secured back-to-back promotions.

Parma go into the top flight with Empoli and whoever wins the play-offs, which are between Frosinone, Venezia, Palermo, Bari, Cittadella and Perugia.
