Roberto D’Aversa has ‘regrets’ after Parma dropped another 2-0 lead for their draw with Spezia. ‘We deserved something more.’

For the second week running, the Ducali fumbled a 2-0 lead for a 2-2 draw, extending their winless streak to 15 rounds.

“We would’ve certainly been in a better position than we are now. These are regrets, because both against Udinese and Spezia, I feel we deserved something more,” the coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“The performances were superior to the opposition, yet we only bring home a point. The goals were emblematic, as we made them a bit too easy for the opponents.

“In the long run, every point will weigh heavily in the race to stay in Serie A. It’s about our approach to the game, because after the equaliser, we did push forward and had the best chances to win it again.

“We had prepared to create the spaces we could then take advantage of once we won back the ball. When we conceded the first goal, it wasn’t because we were sitting deep, it was an error and we cannot afford to let these goals go in.

“I feel in both the first and above all the second goal, there were distractions and we were caught out. The intention was not to sit deep when 2-0 up.”

Parma already had a huge injury crisis, then Andreas Cornelius pulled out in the warm-up.

“He felt a twice during the warm-up. Unfortunately, it can happen that a lot of injuries all occur in the same area of the team.

“Karamoh was hurt and asked to come off, otherwise I’d have been crazy to substitute him!”

D’Aversa parted company with Parma at the end of last season, but came back after a dismal run under Fabio Liverani.

“I thought about the work I’d done here for four years and the only reason I returned was I want Parma to stay in Serie A and protect the work I did here in that time.”
