Roberto D’Aversa has written a farewell letter to Parma after his dismissal. ‘After four years of success, battles, victories, smiles and targets achieved, the moment has come to say goodbye.’

The coach was formally fired this morning, a decision that had been in the air for a few days now, as Fabio Liverani is ready to take over.

The tactician had been on the Parma bench since December 2016, when the club was in Serie C following bankruptcy, taking them to back-to-back promotions into Serie A.

“After four years of success, battles, victories, smiles and targets achieved, the moment has come to say goodbye,” wrote D’Aversa in an open letter.

“We shared a grand experience, we tasted a coup, thanks to the work and sacrifice of everyone we achieved unthinkable results. It was possible thanks to unconditional support of the owners, fans of Parma, passionate and united: like a family.

“I too am part of this family, as along with them I grew as a man and a coach. Parma put faith in me, allowed me to work with calm, alongside good people. The fans can relax, because they are in safe hands.

“My particular thanks goes to the players, all those I worked with during this splendid journey. As I always say, they go on the pitch and therefore deserve the credit for victories.

“It was a pleasure to share this experience with them. I am a demanding coach, I expect a lot from myself and from others. This is why I must thank all elements of the club, from the kit staff to secretaries, press officers to medics, directors to CEO.

“I fought side by side with Daniele Faggiano, a fine man who knows football so well, a director always ready with a word of comfort. Someone to rely on.”

Director of sport Faggiano had already left Parma earlier this summer, part of the general change of direction that ultimately saw D’Aversa dismissed.

“It’s impossible to forget the splendid Parma fans. Their warmth was always felt, even when things didn’t go that well, and their support was never lacking.

“To those who applauded, supported, jeered and criticised, especially the latter, I thank you. Without their push, their motivation to keep doing better, we wouldn’t have come this far.

“Arrivederci Parma, I will forever be grateful to you.”
