“I am happy for the boys, they deserve this achievement,” a delighted D’Anna reacted post-match.

“The team has important qualities and they have shown it on the pitch game after game.

“I am happy, most of all for our President. He has always given us a helping hand.

“My players are true men. It hasn’t been easy to work in these three weeks but they have had a great end to the season.”

D’Anna has only been in charge of Chievo for three weeks, having stepped up from the Primavera team to replace the sacked Rolando Maran with the club in grave relegation danger.

However, he has masterminded three wins from as many matches to keep the Bentegodi side in Serie A.

But despite Chievo’s escape from the drop, he is unsure whether he will remain in the dugout next season.

“I don’t know, I will speak to the President. For me, being able to work at Chievo is enough.”
