Former Inter defender Danilo D’Ambrosio is edging closer to completing a free transfer to Lazio, Gianluca Di Marzio reports.

The 34-year-old Italian centre back ended a nine-year association with the Nerazzurri last week after his contract drew to a close.

During his time at Inter, D’Ambrosio made 284 appearances across all competitions, scoring 21 goals and providing 20 assists. He won a Scudetto and two Coppa Italia titles with the club.

Di Marzio details how D’Ambrosio has been negotiating a free transfer to Lazio and is close to reaching a total agreement with the Roman club.

Things are expected to be finalised by the early stages of next week, allowing the veteran defender to join the Biancocelesti squad and Maurizio Sarri for their pre-season training camp in Auronzo di Cadore.

One aspect that hampered Lazio last season was their lack of options on the bench, so the arrival of D’Ambrosio will give Sarri more flexibility with his backline.
