Mauro Camoranesi switched from Argentina to Italy for the 2006 World Cup, followed by Amauri and Cristian Ledesma under Cesare Prandelli's reign.

“I have my own ideas about this sort of thing,” said Fiorentina midfielder D'Agostino.

“In my view people should play for their own country, where they were born. Even though it seems in modern football things change and anything can happen.”

Lazio's Argentine Ledesma (pictured) is set to make his Azzurri debut in this evening's friendly against Romania.

D'Agostino is one of the potential challengers for Ledesma's role in the Italy squad.

“Competition is motivating and I cheer on all my Azzurri teammates. As for me, I have time to get back in shape and that way there will be even more competition.”
