Davide Nicola believes Crotone are paying the price for their lack of Serie A experience following defeat to Sassuolo.

The struggling Pitagorici looked like finally picking up their first win of the season after Diego Falcinelli put them in front early on against the Neroverdi.

Nicola’s team then hit the woodwork twice, but their failure to kill the game off came back to haunt them as Eusebio Di Francesco’s team turned the contest around with two late goals.

“I would say that today for 87 minutes we were playing the perfect match,” Nicola told reporters. “It’s a shame about the final minutes.

“It’s as if we were a boxer who still lacks experience at key moments. My team, wherever it goes, plays to win and today we were very close to achieving that.

“I am sorry, in my opinion there isn’t much missing, but at the moment we are paying for a lack of experience.”
