“Together we want to give Genoa a smile, and to help the city come back stronger than before.

“It’s always a huge emotion [to play for Italy] you see those four stars on the shirt and we’ll be playing in my stadium, the one where I started playing and to which I always come back for Genoa and the city.

“The national team? We don’t have [Francesco] Totti, [Roberto] Baggio or [Alessandro] Del Piero, but there are a lot of good players, interesting youngsters.

“[Federico] Chiesa, [Lorenzo] Pellegrini, [Lorenzo] Insigne and Pietro Pellegri too, who was born in 2001. He seems very strong to me.”
