The second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic continues to grow in Italy, with another 35,089 cases and 580 deaths over the last 24 hours.

Italy was the first European country to be truly hit by the pandemic with the first case on February 20.

Today’s figures show out of 217,758 tests, there were 35,089 new positive cases in the last 24 hours.

There were also 580 deaths, taking the total for those who lost their lives in Italy to Coronavirus to 42,330.

Intensive care units are also filling up again, with an extra 122 admitted over 24 hours, taking the total to 2,971 currently in the ICU.

Once again, Lombardy is the region at the centre of the pandemic, with 10,955 new cases since yesterday.
