As usual, Lombardy is the hotbed of the virus, with 23 deaths and 210 new positive cases over the last 24 hours.

Throughout the country, there were 346 new positive tests out of 49,750 swabs.

The overall number of current active cases fell by 1,512 to 27,485.

There are now 220 patients in intensive care (-7), 3,747 hospitalised in need of treatment (-146) and 23,518 self-isolating at home with only minor symptoms (-1,359).

The good news is that only Lombardy (210), Piedmont (40), Emilia-Romagna (28) and Lazio (25, of which 23 were delayed) had 15 or more new positive tests since yesterday, with seven regions registering zero new patients.
