Olivier Giroud only has a week to reach fitness following his ankle injury as Milan gear up for the derby with Inter.

The 36-year-old Frenchman caused concern for Rossoneri fans after withdrawing from the France squad following his ankle issue suffered in the Euro 2024 qualifier win over Ireland.

Giroud is still a central part of Stefano Pioli’s Milan attack and he’s started the season in fine fashion, scoring four goals and providing one assist in his first three games of the campaign.

Page 15 of today’s Gazzetta dello Sport details how Giroud will return to Milanello today to start undergoing treatment in his left ankle. Tests carried out yesterday ruled out any serious injuries.

The 36-year-old is expected to return to squad training on September 14, two days before the Derby della Madonnina, but he could even push to make the session the day before, as originally scheduled.

Should everything go to plan, he’d be able to start the derby with Inter on September 16, giving Milan one of their key players for the clash.
