Siena boss Serse Cosmi has urged his players to forget about how the League table would look without their points deduction.

Siena boss Serse Cosmi has urged his players to forget about how the League table would look without their points deduction.

The Tuscan minnows would be sixth in Serie A with eights points from five games, but their six-point penalty as part of the betting probe means they are still in the relegation zone.

“Yes, we should have eight points, but the table says two and we need to think about survival,” Cosmi noted after Thursday’s 1-0 win over Bologna.

“Instead of thinking that we have made a good start to the campaign, we have to consider it as an average one. After all, what the League table says is what counts.”

The Bianconeri did have a problematic beginning to the campaign, but they’ve now won their last two – including a 2-0 triumph at Inter.

“Now we have Lazio and there is no time to celebrate,” added the former Lecce tactician ahead of Sunday’s trip to the Olimpico.
