Lecce have “only a five per cent chance of safety,”  warns Serse Cosmi, as they go into the final 90 minutes of the season.

The Salentini need to beat Chievo at the Stadio Bentegodi and hope Genoa lose at home to Palermo in order to avoid relegation.

These two results would put them level on points and on head-to-head records, so it’d go down to overall goal difference, which is in Lecce’s favour.

“As often happens at the end of the season, this week has been full of coincidences,” said Cosmi in his press conference.

“Travelling to Verona is a group of players who are in the situation I promised them when I arrived. I said my dream would be to be here fighting up until the last second of the last game.

“Naturally there are big disadvantages to the current situation, as we are missing lads like Nenad Tomovic who spit blood for this jersey.”

Leonardo Miglionico and Gennaro Delvecchio are suspended, while Massimo Oddo, Julio Sergio and Daniele Corvia are injured.

“The fans asked us to fight to the last second and I think we’ve done everything possible this week to ensure that determination is there.

“Do I have regrets? This is not the time, but if I look back then of course I think about the game we lost against Fiorentina last week.

“Tomorrow we must know how to face a real challenge, as Chievo will play their game. I told the lads we’ve got a five per cent chance of safety, but we have to play that five per cent all the way.”
