Serse Cosmi knows it is a relegation dogfight of the toughest kind between Lecce and Novara today, but “we’re targeting fourth-from-bottom and not our current position.”

With Cesena practically relegated, it’s a head-to-head in order to find out who will try to keep their hopes of safety alive for a few more weeks.

“The game against Novara is certainly very important, but it is certainly not the last,” noted Cosmi.

“Since the moment I arrived at Lecce, I said we needed to achieve something extraordinary to keep it in the running to the very final round.

“Clearly our only objective is three points here, but we’re targeting fourth-from-bottom and not aiming to just consolidate our current position.”

Lecce are three points clear of penultimate side Novara, but five points adrift of Parma in the safety zone.

“Novara’s strength over the years has always been their unity as a team. They seemed to be out of the running this season, but with Attilio Tesser’s return to the bench and two victories the enthusiasm is back. We’ll certainly face a fiery environment. I am also curious to see what the artificial pitch is like.”
