On March 22, there are a total of 5,476 people who have died after contracting COVID-19, an increase of 651 since March 21.

Another 3,957 tested positive since yesterday, while 952 have made a full recovery in the same period for a total 7,024 who have surpassed the illness.

There are currently 46,638 positive tests, 23,783 in self-isolation at home, 3,000 in intensive care.

It is at least a small drop from yesterday’s record surge of 793 deaths in 24 hours, but the last three days have been horrific for the nation.

Over the last 72 hours, there have been another 2,071 deaths.

However, there is hope that Italy has reached the ‘peak’ and surpassed it, because the numbers stop showing incremental increases today.

The result of the total clampdown on movement in Italy was expected to take several days to show and it seems as if that is now happening.

“Today’s numbers show a drop compared to yesterday, I hope these can be confirmed going forward,” said commissioner Angelo Borrelli.

“We mustn’t lower our guard, so continue to respect the indications from the Government.”

The number of total deaths (793 compared to 651) and new positive cases (4,821 compared to 3,957) have dropped from March 21 to 22.
