There were 195 deaths related to coronavirus in Italy over the last 24 hours, but only 888 new cases and 3,502 were given the all-clear.

The general numbers continue to remain stable or on the downward curve in what is now the second-worst hit country in Europe after the UK.

Since yesterday, another 195 deaths were registered, with 69 of those in the Lombardy region.

It takes the total death toll since the first case on February 20 to 31,106.

The other figures are all reassuring, as there were 888 new positive cases (394 of them in Lombardy), but the number of overall active positive cases plummeted by 2,809.

That is because 3,502 people were given the all-clear, while 693 left hospital and 59 were moved out of intensive care.

The most promising aspect of the latest statistics show that out of 61,973 tests, only 888 came back positive, so 1.4 per cent.

As things stand on May 13, there are 78,457 active cases of coronavirus in Italy, 65,392 of them are self-isolating with minor symptoms, 12,172 are in hospital, of which 893 in intensive care.

A massive 112,541 patients have made a full recovery.
