Empoli became the second Serie A side to be knocked out of the Coppa Italia, going down 1-0 at home to Vicenza.

Following Bologna’s shock exit at the hands of Pavia, Marco Giampaolo’s side were unable to overcome their Serie B opponents.

The Tuscans fielded a strong side, with Max Tonelli, Riccardo Saponara and Massimo Maccarone all playing from the start.

However, on 54 minutes a cross from the right flank found Leonardo Gatto unmarked in the box, and it was a simple task for the on-loan Atalanta forward to convert.
