Antonio Conte complained of a “crazy” transfer market, as Chelsea “are asked £55m for a player of medium quality.”
The reference may well have been to Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly, who will be offered a contract renewal by the Serie A side next week.
“In this moment it’s very difficult to buy,” said Conte.
“It’s possible to be asked for £55m for a player of medium quality. It’s incredible. For this reason I said it’s a crazy, crazy market. It’s very difficult to do the market with this price and this condition.”
Unlike Jose Mourinho at Manchester United, Conte is not prepared to splash out €110m on a single player.
“I am not comfortable. I don’t like to pay a lot of money. The money is not mine but I don’t like it all the same. I don’t find it right.
“We must be patient. It’s a real situation and we must leave this situation in the right way, for me.”
