The CT has announced that he’ll step down after this summer’s tournament in France, but was asked ahead of the Germany friendly whether a great performance could lead to a change of heart.

Antonio Conte won’t stay with Italy, even if he wins Euro 2016 – “my choice is final”.

The CT has announced that he’ll step down after this summer’s tournament in France, but was asked ahead of the Germany friendly whether a great performance could lead to a change of heart.

“My choice doesn’t depend on the result, positive or negative,” Conte told assembled media in his pre-match Press conference.

“We’ll play tomorrow, then I’ll be free for two months and I’ll devote myself to my family. Maybe there will be moments of regret, but my choice is final. I miss the pitch.”

Conte was then asked if Italy’s performance in the summer will be the acid test of his time in charge.

“We depend a lot on results to determine whether opinions are positive or negative. Sometimes that’s not right, because you have to look at the work too.

“Even [Marcello] Lippi was criticised in the past, and he had won a World Cup. What I can promise is that I’ll always give my all to ensure we’re improving.

“We won’t have any regrets, we’ll do our best out there on the pitch. I don’t know how far we’ll go, but we have to give our all.”

After the draw with Spain it was suggested that the Azzurri failed to make the most of their chances, is that a concern?

“We have to analyse the various games,” Conte responded.

“Against Spain we only allowed them three shots on goal, I’d sign-up right now to always have that record against that kind of team.

“We had nine shots on their goal. It try to analyse situations, we want to attack while finding the right balance so that we concede as few as possible.”
