Antonio Conte wants the Nazionale to “astound and make Italians proud” at Euro 2016. “Nobody can stop us dreaming.”

The Coach will name his final 23-man squad this evening during a TV special, although many sources claim to already know the picks.

“Dreams must always be part of our lives, as dreaming gives you that motivation to achieve an objective that today might only be in a dream,” Conte told Rai Sport.

“I think nobody can stop us dreaming, otherwise that would be like death.”

There is very little enthusiasm around the Azzurri going into the tournament, as many top players are either injured or weren’t chosen by Conte.

“We are working well, trying to create something wonderful that can astound and make Italians proud.

“Italy haven’t won the Euros since 1968 and that lets you understand how difficult we’ve found this competition in the past.

“We will try to keep our feet on the ground, take one baby step at a time trying to get past the group stage and then we’ll see what the future holds.”

Fans have reacted with particular fury online at suggestions the iconic Number 10 jersey will go to Thiago Motta.

Predicted Italy squad of 23: Buffon, De Sciglio, Chiellini, Darmian, Ogbonna, Candreva, Zaza, Florenzi, Pellè, Motta, Immobile, Sirigu, Marchetti, Sturaro, Barzagli, De Rossi, Eder, Parolo, Bonucci, Insigne, Bernardeschi, El Shaarawy, Giaccherini.

Reserves: Benassi, Rugani, Zappacosta
