There are reports Andrea Pirlo will be dropped after a less than scintillating performance against Malta.

“You’ll find out my line-up tomorrow evening,” replied Conte. “There are many options in future for the deep-lying midfielder role, such as Claudio Marchisio, Daniele De Rossi, Riccardo Montolivo and Mirko Valdifiori. The important thing is that whoever plays knows what they have to do.

“Simone Zaza? He can play with Graziano Pellè, but also with Ciro Immobile.

“I am not disappointed by criticism, because I know that’s part of the game. The Nazionale is on its own, so it’s more open to criticism than any other team. We will try to silence the critics with hard work.”

Captain Gigi Buffon makes his 150th appearance for Italy tomorrow evening.

“Finding an adjective for Gigi is difficult, because he is such a champion. I admire him as a player and as a man. He was my teammate, my goalkeeper at club level and now for Italy.”
