Italy Coach Antonio Conte reveals what he learned from Arrigo Sacchi, but remains vague about his future.

The 46-year-old won the Gazzetta Sports Award as Coach of the Year, beating Napoli's Maurizio Sarri and basketball's Meo Sacchetti.

The award at the ceremony was handed over by Dan Peterson and Italian tactician Sacchi, who coached Conte himself at the 1994 World Cup.

“I often confront myself with Arrigo,” he said. “I'm honoured by such a recognition. I try working at my best so I'm not out of my depth in this situation.

“Sacchi demanded a lot as a Coach and I believe I learned a lot from him.

“His downside? He wasn't a great footballer!” he joked.

“At USA '94 we sometimes heard Arrigo yelling in the night. He said: diagonally, move, cover… He dreamt of us [players] at night.”

Conte was typically elusive when asked about his future, saying only “we'll talk about that at some later stage.”

However he did receive a statement towards long-term support by FIGC President Carlo Tavecchio.

“It was I who chose Antonio,” he said. They want to take him away from us? He has enormous liberty of movement with us. I hope he stays, we'll do everything we can to hold on to him.”
