Inter coach Antonio Conte insists Christian Eriksen ‘has had many chances’ and admits Serie A is ‘more balanced’ this season.

The Nerazzurri face Torino at the Giuseppe Meazza on Sunday with Christian Eriksen who, according to reports in Italy, could once against start on the bench.

“I always say that I make the choices for the good of Inter,” Conte said at a press conference.

“I think Christian had plenty of opportunities, he played more than other players. He will start or come off the bench when I deem it appropriate, otherwise I will make other decisions.”

The Italian tactician believes the former Tottenham star can’t play as a regista.

“Absolutely not, it’s a role that would penalize the player too much. Christian has important skills, he can kick the ball with both feet. If you transform him entirely by putting him in front of the defence, you take away his greatest strength."

The likes of Daniele Padelli, Marcelo Brozovic and Aleksandar Kolarov are out of action due to Covid.

"We get to the game with three positives,” Conte confirmed.

"Apart from them and [Andrea] Pinamonti, the rest of players are available. There are some who played important games with their national teams and others who played less.

"The situation is difficult but not only for Inter. And it’s more difficult for clubs that play European competitions which are challenging.

"It will be like this until Christmas and even after, we know it very well. We will have to deal with the situation in the best possible way, hoping that good luck will smile a little between injuries and players positive for Covid.”

Inter are currently our from Champions League placements but many consider the Nerazzurri the team to beat in Serie A this season.

“We can be proud of this because in only one year we are considered more competitive than teams that have been dominating over the last few years. It’s miraculous. I think we have to work.

“We know both our strengths and weaknesses, we have to think about ourselves. I always hope that there is intellectual honesty from everyone, especially from those who must give judgment.

“We concede very few shots in goal but there is a high percentage of goals we concede. These are positive numbers, we need to be better and be more effective in front of goal.

“Surely we could have done better. For what we are doing on the pitch I hope to see the same things [against Torino]. If we keep dominating games and create situations to score but in the end we lose or draw we see the glass half empty.”
