Chelsea failed to qualify for the Champions League after a 3-0 defeat to Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle United on Sunday, but Conte suggested he was the man to take the Blues back into Europe’s elite club competition, without confirming his employers were in agreement.

“For sure we must change because if we think we can play a game like this in the final of the FA Cup, we don't have a chance,” the Italian said after the game.

“We have six days to change our approach, our desire, our will to fight. For this, I am the first person to answer because I am the Coach of this team.

“We have to play the last game in the FA Cup and then, as you know very well because I am repeating always the same thing, I am committed to this club.

“The most important thing is what the club thinks, not you or the speculation about me. I have a contract and the club know very well the situation.

“After Saturday, we go on vacation and then we will see next season. Now I think it's important to finish this season and whether I am confident about next season is not important now.

“We want to finish this season in the best possible way and our fans deserve more.”
