Victor Osimhen’s late return from international duty is starting to raise eyebrows, despite Luciano Spalletti’s calm words to the press.

The 23-year-old Napoli forward is the last of his Nigeria teammates, like Kelechi Iheanacho and Ola Aina, to return to their respective clubs following the recent international break, where the Super Eagles failed to secure their spot in the upcoming World Cup in Qatar. Spalletti was calm about the situation in a press conference yesterday, although the cause of the situation was not revealed.

As detailed by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Napoli wanted to verify Osimhen’s arrival in Naples yesterday morning but this didn’t happen, raising some eyebrows. He’s still expected to return to squad training tomorrow and he was granted a leave of absence, as he is suspended for the match against Atalanta anyway.

The quick return of his Nigeria teammates suggests that the Napoli forward is not dealing with bureaucratic issues, something which many expected.

The 23-year-old Osimhen is a key attacking figure on Spalletti’s squad, netting 11 goals in 20 Serie A appearances this season. Napoli need him to be on top form if they want to steal the Scudetto from out of Milan’s clutches now.
