Italy legend Fulvio Collovati criticised the current Azzurri set-up’s defence and Gigi Buffon “is not as reactive as he was.”

Last night’s 2-2 draw in Denmark maintained their unbeaten record in World Cup qualifying.

“Italy’s performance was ugly and fortunate, but it’s a classic trend that we’re more concentrated when the result counts for something,” Collovati told acalcissimo.com.

“The positives are that we create scoring opportunities relatively easily and Daniel Osvaldo is a fine alternative to Mario Balotelli.

“The other second string players are not up to the level of the first choices, nor do they have the same character. I think it’s difficult to find two players like Daniele De Rossi and Andrea Pirlo.

“Our weak point is defending and that reflects the situation in Serie A too. For some time I’ve been saying that Buffon is not as reactive as he was. That is not a criticism, but a statement of fact. Now he saves what he can, whereas before he performed miracles.”
