Reports say Manchester City are ready to pay €40m for Inter captain Mauro Icardi in the summer.

Gazzetta dello Sport writes today that the Citizens are willing to make the Argentine striker one of their major summer buys.

Arsenal and Chelsea have also been linked with the 22-year-old, but the newspaper believes City have the financial firepower and tactical requirement to sign him.

However, the reports points to a series of doubts around the move, beginning with the desire of the player as he has recently reaffirmed that he wants to stay at San Siro and win with the Nerazzurri.

Another surrounds Inter’s standpoint, as Gazzetta writes that if the club want to return to being in the world’s top 10, then they shouldn’t be selling their best players.

However, the report says that the Nerazzurri will need to sell in order to fund their own mercato campaign and that if Icardi begins to feel less central to Mancini’s project, the situation could change.

The Argentine has scored four goals in 12 appearances so far this season, after finishing as Capocannoniere in 2014/15.
