Chievo announce they are “amazed and disappointed” to have been given a three point deduction, and will appeal against the sentence.

The Flying Donkeys were found guilty of false accounting today, and were fined €200,000 as well as being deducted three points.

“We are amazed and disappointed by the outcome of today's ruling,” a statement on the club’s website begins.

“We firmly believe, now more than ever, that the club has always acted with fairness and transparency, and the investigations by the prosecutor were not carried out properly.

“We therefore believe that Chievo Verona does not deserve this reduced penalty [prosecutors had asked for 15] which is the result of an awareness on the part of the court of the weakness of the prosecution’s case.

“We will therefore appeal, confident that the sporting justice will eventually recognise our reasoning.

“In any case, beyond all considerations of merit, the fact remains that we declare the charge against Chievo Verona void because of the reasons already expressed yesterday at the hearing and in particular because the only person who could legitimately sign the relevant document have been the prosecutor Giuseppe Pecoraro, who has not done so, and has not put forward any impediment, as is required by the code of sporting justice.”
