Chievo Verona have refused to criticise match officials for ruling out a perfectly good goal in their 2-1 loss to Juventus.
With the scores level at 1-1, the home side took the lead when Alberto Paloschi slotted home from close range after Gigi Buffon failed to hold on to the ball.
However, the assistant referee raised his flag – although replays show the striker was not in an offside position.
“Paloschi’s goal should have been given, but I don’t like crying about things like that,” boss Giuseppe Sannino noted.
“Referees can make mistakes and attacking them is not the right thing to do.
“My biggest regret is not the disallowed goal, but the two we conceded which could have been avoided.
“Now we need to think about the next game, but the performance of my boys against the Italian champions gives me hope.”
Meanwhile, President Luca Campedelli actually offered the assistant referee some words of encouragement after the final whistle as he tried to console him.
The post game actions of Sannino and Campedelli were praised by Juventus boss Antonio Conte who accepted his team had benefitted.
“Today there was an incident that went in our favour and we’ll take heed of it,” the former midfielder noted.
“We could have one go against us in future and we’ll accept the decision with the same sportsmanship shown by Sannino and Campedelli.”
