Federico Chiesa believes Italy “could’ve won” with their chances in the 1-1 draw with England and wants to become an Azzurri regular.

The 20-year-old Fiorentina winger came off the bench for his second senior cap and earned the penalty converted by Lorenzo Insigne to draw 1-1 at Wembley.

“I immediately realised it was a penalty, as he trod on my foot. I wanted this at all costs, as we deserved the equaliser and considering our chances throughout, we could’ve won,” Chiesa told Rai Sport.

“I was so hungry for the equaliser, as we needed it with our current form and it gives everyone a boost.

“I am very happy, as last time I was able to make my debut and that itself was a dream, but even more was continuing to play for my country.

“I am happy with what the team showed in the first half too, as with Ciro Immobile’s chances we should’ve taken the lead, while we had the better of the second half.

“The Coach told me to play wide, run at my defender and show determination to bring home an important result, because after what I thought was an undeserved defeat to Argentina, we could’ve won tonight. The draw is a boost for our confidence, though.

“If we had scored one of those early chances, it would’ve been a very different result. We were doing well in midfield too, but unfortunately England took the lead by taking advantage of our error. The important thing is that the team reacted well.

“I am at the disposal of whichever Coach arrives. I thank Di Biagio, as he has been very important for my growth both at the Under-21 side and now with my first senior matches.”
