Giorgio Chiellini says Juventus are 'running out of time' and 'must fix all the small details'.

The Bianconeri defence didn't look as impregnable over the summer as it did last season, but the 32-year-old knows there is room to improve.

“It's a work in progress,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport. “We know we must get better in the finer details. We don't have very much time left and starting from tomorrow we'll have to give a little extra every day, because it's the details that make the difference.

“We trained well, prioritizing physical condition and possession. We tried playing in every situation, now we must also think about concreteness and solidity.

“It's not a matter of formation, we can play with three or four men at the back according to who's in the best condition. Details are part of what it means to keep a high level of concentration.

“Half of our squad came here early but a substantial part of our group joined us late. So far we never played with the starting XI that will take to the pitch against Fiorentina.

“We must regain our confidence and return to the right level of focus quickly, because we're running out of time. Our championship starts out in a very difficult manner and this must be an extra incentive.”

Chiellini was also asked whether the excellent market campaign might not make the team over-confident.

“There's a lot of enthusiasm after the great signings, but if we don't have the necessary nastiness, we can't win. Compared to the previous summer we changed less and we signed mature, quality players.

“We also gathered the experience after our poor start from the 2015-16 season, when we thought we were giving it 100 per cent, but we weren't.

“We're all veterans and we know the dangers of Serie A. But we must be aware that in order to win we must do more than we've done in the pre-season.”
