An expected contract renewal has never materialised for Icardi, despite teammate Mateo Kovacic being handed an improved deal, leading to speculation the former could be allowed to depart San Siro.

While the former Sampdoria striker is tied to the club until 2018, he is one of Inter’s lower earners on €1m per season.

By contrast, Kovacic, a year Icardi’s junior, takes home an annual €2.5m.
