Reports in England suggest Chelsea could give David Luiz to Napoli for a reduced fee – if the Partenopei waive Maurizio Sarri’s release clause.

Carlo Ancelotti was confirmed as the new Coach at the Stadio San Paolo yesterday, but Sarri hasn’t yet been released from his contract.

There is an €8m release clause in place which is valid until the end of this month, and President Aurelio De Laurentiis is hoping another club will pay it.

That would effectively fund the salaries for Ancelotti and his staff for the first year of their contracts.

Now the Daily Telegraph is reporting that Chelsea, one of Sarri’s likely destinations alongside Zenit St Petersburg have come up with a way to get around the clause.

The Blues will have to pay around €10m to sack Antonio Conte, so aren’t keen to add to that by paying €8m for Sarri, particularly when Napoli already have another Coach.

Therefore, the Telegraph reports, they could offer centre-back David Luiz to the Partenopei for a reduced fee, as long as they waive the release clause for Sarri.

Ordinarily Chelsea would want close to €23m for Luiz, but if they could get Sarri for free they’d do business for around €17m.
