There is another setback for Inter’s pursuit of Benjamin Pavard, with German reports that Bayern Munich are not progressing in talks to sign his replacement Trevoh Chalobah from Chelsea.

The clubs have shaken hands on a deal for Pavard, who has also agreed personal terms with the Nerazzurri and is not taking part in training with his teammates today.

That agreement is based on Bayern Munich first finding a replacement for Pavard, but Inter are rapidly losing patience with the Bundesliga side.

Sky Sports Deutschland report this evening that there has been another setback, because after a day of optimism that Bayern had finally found their man, the talks with Chelsea have hit problems.

It is suggested that Bayern Munich only want to sign Chalobah on loan with an option to buy, whereas Chelsea are holding out for a permanent sale.

The timing could be crucial here, because Inter are only ready to wait for another couple of days before turning to a different target.

The most likely is Torino centre-back Perr Schuurs, but another option is Japhet Tanganga of Tottenham Hotspur.

Notably, Inter want Pavard to play in central defence, whereas Bayern Munich are seeking a right-back to replace him.

It is also a dangerous game Bayern are playing, because the France international’s contract only runs to the end of the season.
