The rules for the Serie B play-offs and play-outs have changed for the 2015-16 season.

Bologna earned promotion via the play-offs last term despite not winning either of their ties.

Under previous rules, if teams drew on aggregate, the side that finished higher up the table during the regular season would go through.

This has caused controversy and today the Lega Serie B announced that the system is being changed, albeit only slightly.

From now on if the play-off Final ends level on aggregate and the two teams had the same number of points in the regular season, the fixture will go to extra time or even penalties.

It means the side that finished higher up the table still gets a pass if the fixture is all square on aggregate.
