Milan face reunions with Sandro Tonali and Gianluigi Donnarumma for Newcastle and PSG, while Napoli take on Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid, Inter visit Benfica and Lazio play Atletico Madrid and Celtic.
The draw for the group stage of the 2023-24 Champions League was held in Monaco this evening.
There are 32 teams competing to reach the Final at Wembley Stadium on June 1, 2024.
The group phase runs from September 19 to December 13, with the top two qualifying for the knockouts and third place dropping into the Europa League.
Scudetto winners Napoli were top seeds, but got one of the toughest possible Pot 2 draws, paired with Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid, Portuguese SC Braga and Leonardo Bonucci’s new club Union Berlin.
Inter reached the Champions League Final last season for the first time in a decade, losing to Manchester City.
They have been placed in a tricky group with Champions of Portugal Benfica, Austrians RB Salzburg and Real Sociedad of Spain.
Milan were in the Champions League semi-final last term and are hoping to do even better this time around, but were only in Pot 3 for the draw.
However, it is going to be an extremely tough start, as they are in a group with Gianluigi Donnarumma’s Paris Saint-Germain, the always-dangerous Borussia Dortmund and an immediate reunion with Tonali’s Newcastle United.
Lazio are back in the Champions League for the first time since 2020-21, when they reached the Round of 16.
They are up against Feyenoord, Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid and Scottish champions Celtic.
