Massimo Cellino’s attempts to take over at English Championship side Leeds United have been delayed for the time being.

A deal appears to be close to completion but the Guardian are now reporting that negotiations cannot proceed any further for the time being because, in the words of a Football League statement, they are ‘yet to receive all of the information it has requested for the relevant parties’.

The news comes a week after the businessman flew into Yorkshire to agree a deal in principal to buy a 75 per cent share in the Elland Road club, as a backdrop to confusion over manager Brian McDermott’s position.
