The Lega Serie A voted unanimously with all 20 clubs declaring themselves ready to complete the 2019-20 season, but Brescia added quite a few caveats to that afterwards.
“My players are afraid. We have the structures to fit the protocol, but they don’t feel ready to risk it and we cannot force them,” Cellino told Radio Sportiva.

“The message that emerged from the Lega Serie A vote was incorrect, because I just voted yes so that I wouldn’t get in the way, but some Presidents don’t know what they are talking about. The medical protocol is not clear and giving the May 4 date to resume training is madness.”
Brescia is one of the hardest-hit cities in Italy from the coronavirus pandemic and Cellino himself tested positive, as did his daughter.
“I feel fine. I’m locked away in my room, as they found the virus in a blood test, even though the swabs came out negative. I see things completely differently to those in other regions, because those who are in Lombardy find it absurd to even think about playing again so soon. Those in other regions underestimate the risk.
“Even if we’d want to play for an economic issue, we’d only do so if there were some guarantees over safety, and currently we do not have those. We need the Government to express itself on this diatribe.
“It is also unthinkable to play beyond June 30, because the contracts and balance sheets have a natural termination. The campaign is to all intents and purposes already ruined, so should be annulled.
“We ought to be thinking about next season, regardless of the division, because forcing a resumption now is impossible and frankly embarrassing. The Government has to take responsibility here and say: yes or no.”
