Massimo Cellino has made his first managerial appointment as Leeds United owner, bringing in Dave Hockaday.

Brain McDermott left the Championship club last month in an ‘amicable agreement’, and the former Cagliari owner has moved to controversially replace him with Hockaday.

The 56-year-old spent the first four years of his Coaching career at Forest Green Rovers in the fifth tier of English football.

But Cellino has deemed the former Watford assistant good enough to take charge of the Elland Road outfit.

“Hockaday will assume overall responsibility for the coaching staff and first team playing squad with immediate effect,” a statement from Leeds read.

“David arrives at Elland Road with a vast amount of coaching experience and was integral to the management team at Watford that gained promotion to the Premier League in 2006.”
