Uruguay continued their warm-up to the World Cup with a 2-0 victory over Slovenia in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Hours after Group D opponents Italy and England respectively drew pre-tournament fixtures with Luxembourg and Ecuador, the Celeste took on Slovenia in Montevideo.

On from Friday’s 1-0 win over Northern Ireland, Oscar Tabarez’s outfit picked up a 2-0 result thanks to goals from Edinson Cavani and substitute Christian Stuani.

Luis Suarez was again absent and is speculated as likely to only return from knee surgery on a meniscus injury in time for Uruguay’s second group game against England.

“We have great hopes of Suarez playing at the World Cup,” Tabarez commented after the game with Slovenia.

“I wouldn't assure it will be in the first match but nor are we ruling that out.”
