The Argentine was signed from Saint-Etienne during the January transfer window, but could not play because of lengthy delays in the paperwork.

This evening the Sicilian club announced it had won its appeal to the TAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport) in Lausanne.

“The TAS recognised Catania's rights to register player Gonzalo Ruben Bergessio, which the club defended strongly in the principle arena of sporting justice,” read a Catania statement.

“We have achieved a positive outcome to the bureaucratic situation around the player's transfer.

“Calcio Catania have received the CTI (Certificate of International Transfer) and the Argentine striker is therefore at the disposal of our Coach for the next official game.”

The Elefantini also thanked FIGC President Giancarlo Abete, Lega Serie A President Maurizio Beretta and Federation lawyer Mario Gallavotti.

Bergessio can make his Serie A debut against Napoli on Sunday.
